my mac stats: mac g5 dt/1.8 ghz / os 10.5.4 / 2.0 gb sdram current system downloads; bought mac new mac connection approximately 3 years ago. problems i've been experiencing many months: 1. seldom, mac fail start causing me forced shutdown holding in power button. if delay doing while (a minute or two), mac fan comes on rather loud. after minute or after forced shutdown, try start again , mac starts ok. 2. seldom, mac 'freezes'/cursor not move, causing me perform forced shutdown described above. 3. when wake mac sleep mode, there 'pop/snap' sound audible depending on volume setting using. note: in case had defective sdram modules, replaced them new high quality ram modules. ideas cause , remedy of above appreciated. thanks, chet   Forums Macs Mac Basics and Help ...

hey guys! woke morning , booted (08)mac pro find 4gb of ram being booted on riser b, , riser didn't register other 6gb. started troubleshoot problem testing see if ram had problem, or riser card itself. config; riser - dimm 1 (2gb), dimm 2 (2gb), dimm 3 (1gb), dimm 4 (1gb) riser b - dimm 1 (2gb), dimm 2 (2gb), other 2 dimms empty troubleshooting on riser a started switching out 2 1gbs, booted, system showed riser dimms 1 & 2, registered, 1gb each instead of 2gb. proceeded switch 2 1gbs riser dimm 1 & 2, , 2gbs in riser 3 & 4. didn't register of mem modules. took 2 x 2gbs riser b , replaced riser a's 2gb modules, switched riser cards themselves. viola! 10gb showed up. throughout whole process, noticed when memory modules don't read, there red led on mem module lights up. i'm wondering problem plaguing memory cards? might add additional ram time , don't want these problems h...

first off, have done research quite while on subject, havent found solve issues. way lock screen, of apps continue working in background, screen saver works. problem screensaver (with password) uses administrator password. able use different password screen lock, (ie friend needs use computer when i'm @ work, rather them have privledges etc..). know have user setup, doesn't solve issue, have use 'fast user switching', disallows programs (internet). found 1 app, utility lock, works precisely how want too, wont allow screen sleep. think developer has abandoned project well. (i've tried sleeping monitor activating utility lock (timed), wakes monitor up). summarize, screen lock can have own password, allows background apps run. has suggestions. reading!   fast user switching allows background apps access internet. tested 10.4.11. should same 10.5....

can me, i'm totally confused. have airport extreme base station hooked cable modem in master bedroom. run ethernet cable aebs imac , works great. have appletv. when atv in bedroom (about 20 feet away aebs), works great (wireless). want stream itunes wirelessly through stereo in living room. bought airport express, told extend network, , few dropouts, itunes plays through speakers in living room. problem: moved appletv living room. it's 15 feet airport express, imac cannot 'see' atv. thought if extended wireless network airport express, ae act relay, both sending , receiving wireless data aebs. if unplug ae living room, suddenly, aebs can 'see' atv. know there speed decrease if extend network, wierd. it's ae blocking signal instead of passing on....?? should have ae set differently? i'm not network guru, seems want should piece of cake. suggestions?? jimmyd   ...

attention geektool and/or leopard users: installing geektool on system leopard cause serious problems! having upgraded leopard, decided grab latest version of geektool. after doing , rebooting, lock while starting up. everything, mean finder, dock, menubar, couldn't open folder on desktop. opening force quit window , trying quit or relaunch caused window lock too. literally "not responding". ran repair disk, repair permissions, , extended test on apple hardware test cd, figuring maybe ram or hd having problems. ended booting machine in target disk mode , deleting applications had in login items list, 1 one. happened start geektool because had suspected problem, rebooted , system runs great now! heads else may choose ignore fact geektool's web site says " ...for panther or tiger...
