Powerbook will not boot from cd/dvd


i have 12inch powerbook came panther installed , running tiger. noticed can't boot cds..
have tried original panther cds, disk warrior, , other panther/tiger cds/dvds.. result in funny looking apple logo:

i've reset pram , tried using macbooks drive boot target disk mode.. has resulted in same logo.
i'm wanting wipe drive clean , start over. advice?
 

i able wipe drive while in target disk mode still getting same funny logo or "no" sign.

no 1 has seen this?

need help with itunes 7.7
