What to do if your iPhone 3G is stuck on the Apple logo

iphone got stuck @ apple logo after hard reboot (which done holding down home , power 5 seconds). also, couldn't settings screen in itunes hit restore button, since itunes beachball when plugged in via usb.

turns out though can make phone enter full software restore mode, described here:

"plug iphone usb , press , hold power , home button @ same time reboot keep on pressing next time boot,(let boot twice while holding) itune logo appear , can restore, try it works"

have restored firmware etc now, got phone , running again factory settings, , in process of restoring backup (seems working, takes long time must admit).

need help with itunes 7.7
