hello everyone, i'm running tiger 11 on ibook g4 27gb of memory. find don't have enough memory keep music on it; longer computer goes without restart less hard drive space have. have never used more 8-9 gb own files, until deleted music found computer had 'zero kb available' meaning couldn't save changes documents hard drive. when restart magically gain gb or 2. normal? how hard drive should available personal use on 27gb hard drive running tiger?
i've run app called 'what size' , says 'previous systems' folders take 5.69 gb. folders , necessary keep them? kind of use space. 'sampler' garageband takes 1.35 gb. if deleted garageband still run ok? i'm guessing not i'm wondering whether they're demos?
sorry questions computer being bit annoying here! hope can help.
the previous system folder arises upgrading using archive & install method. it's system folders previous installation dumped in folder safe keeping. find there's file in there still need , move/copy on main installation. that's it's used for. if system stable , running fine, though, can delete whole previous systems folder.
fluctuation in free available space result of virtual memory file being reinitialized.
want 5-10gb of free space (free @ boot up, i.e. not including swap file above, fine) if @ possible; @ least, experience tiger wants lot of free space on boot drive. it's little harder when have such small boot drive, still general principle causes tiger perform lot better -- wasn't true panther.
