ok, before start on let me first state apple , products. own g4 powerbook, macbook, , 16gb ipod touch. have convinced of friends , family switch pcs macs, not apple hater or microsoft fan boy stretch of imagination.
when apple released first software upgrade/update iphone , ipod touch owners in january, iphone owners got free while ipod touch owners had pay $19.99. reason iphones on subscription accounting model, while ipods not, new features must have cost attached them supposedly required law (sarbanes-oxley act), , cost must relative new features "value". apple charged $4 per new app (mail, stocks, weather, notes, , maps). agree reasonably fair price these apps, , purchased few days after came out.
apple released the 2.0 software upgrade, , again iphone owners free , ipod touch owners required pay. fine because of supposed accounting laws require it, there problem. cost of upgrade supposed relative value of new features, yet 2.0 upgrade costs $9.95 , includes not new features microsoft exchange support , new calculator, contains january app pack.
how possible new upgrade has more features original can cost half, if accounting laws require price coincide value of new features? not possible or logical more features cost less when price dictated value of features. think apple uses excuse milk ipod touch owners cash.
think?
the "value" company places on it. sox doesn't have rules on how calculate it, applies , how must accounted for. apple didn't have reduce upgrade price 50%. happier if charged $19.95?
hardly lie, them in more trouble not charging in first place.
