Flying Tomorrow, Question about Carry-ons


i'm flying chicago tomorrow on american airlines , coming on sunday. while there, i'm getting new macbook pro , ipod touch because i'm selling old ibook sister. i've read online dimensions of macbook pro box 17"x17"x3.25". first off, can confirmation on that?

secondly, if that's true, check-in bag small box fit in. have backpack carry-on. allowed carry both macbook pro box , backpack onto plane? i've looked on tsa , american airlines site , couldn't find definite answer, if answer this, appreciate it.

don't want screwed , have leave box sister until comes home late august.
 

if backpack small (not huge hiking backpacks), should able take both, long mbp box doesn't exceed dimensions of carry-on.

need help with itunes 7.7
