Can the iPhone 3G be transferred after activation?


i'm on family plan, , wife has original iphone. i'm interested in iphone 3g, wife isn't planning on upgrading. phone not eligible upgrade.

know if possible buy 3g iphone upgrade wife's phone, transfer number, , put number on original iphone?

stopped at&t store today , said wasn't possible, don't see why be. can't imagine prevent transfer of iphone 3g after purchase - if 1 sold used?
 

can iphone 3g transferred?

i wondering same exact thing. wife doesn't have iphone already, eligible upgrade, , willing use upgrade phone $199, let me have phone. work?!
