I got my "new" G4 Mac Mini

wrote thread few days how getting free g4 mac mini co-worker got intel mac mini , did not need g4 anymore.

got g4 mac mini yesterday , once got home first thing did take case off, clean inside of mac mini out . . . surprisingly not considering messing 3 year old computer. while computer open, took stick of ddr ram g5 , installed mac mini. mini had 1gb of ram, not stock 256mb computer came with. not going try running computer it.

after installed new ram , got case on mac mini, connected setup on desk consist of old apple pro keyboard , mouse g4 owned, 20" dell wide-screen monitor, g4 cube usb speakers, , linksys wrt54g dd-wrt acting wireless bridge since mac mini did not come airport card. wiped hard drive , started installation process of mac os x 10.5 leopard. surprised @ length of time took leopard install on little mac mini hour.

surprised me, after thinking little while had hardware factors against me. first using apple combo drive read dvds "up to" 8x , hard drive in mac mini 4200 rpm 40gb drive.

still did not bother me much, hour install modern operating system still fantastic!!! , unlike *cough* windows , *cough* linux, once installation finished not have "configure" devices , drivers, system update in background , go business.

during , after system update, started using g4 mac mini transferring music g5 onto mac mini, while surfing web , ripping few other cds bought weekend @ same time. not 1 things 1 @ time, , worried how little mac hold kind of usage considering slow hard drive, , slow fsb @ 167mhz compared more modern day macs.

yet little mac mini kept on without skipping beat. thinking myself "this becoming favorite mac have ever owned" continued use mac mini majority of night surfing web, listening music, checking email, , every , using screen share see how g5 doing stuff down stairs.

suffice love g4 mac mini. can't wait home today onto computer , more surfing. made web browsing fun again me.

g4 cube owner , still am. love g4 cube buts glory days have come , passed. still use file server none media files, other g4 cube extremely limited can do. many people scared new mac mini going g4 cube when mini introduced! mac mini looked absolutely amazing, not worth $1799 price tag g4 cube. , when steve jobs said cost $499 had serious doubts little computer. reading review after review of how great little computer looking forward using one.

3 years later, own 1 , absolutely love little mac. saving money new mac pro in year or so, think save money , intel mac mini instead, love size, , yeah nice have more expansion, other hard drive , ram, don't see else need. think mac mini becoming ultimate mac me!
