Use Iphone 3g as MP3 Player?


i wondering if possible go , buy new iphone 3g , bring home not use phone yet instead mp3 player month. have month left on verizon contract want iphone 3g , play around , activate contract , new phone. possible? or phone brick til activated contract?
 

it's brick. can nothing before sign up. cannot leave store without signing up.

need help with itunes 7.7
