Import video directly as MP4


i've been searching night can't seem find answer amateur question:

using sony dcr in between vcr imac import old vhs tapes. want import whole tapes mp4 format small file size plus the video quality doesn't need great.

there program (free or not) lets me import directly mp4 opposed using imovie , importing dv , having "share - export using quicktime" mp4 takes forever?

need help with itunes 7.7
