RAM Question NEED HELP QUICK


i purchased dual intel processor 2.4 ghz ram macbook pro around january or february , i've started come problems running plug ins pro tools program. wanted upgrade available ram 4gb after visiting several sites (including apple.com) i've become aware can use 3gb no matter how more put in there. i'm heading micro center buy 2gb @ least upgrade 3 if @ possible can more?

can stop unnecessary programs running in background? how know whats vital process needs open , 1 can close safely without interrupting os x?

fyi running pro tools le mbox 2 pro. using external firewire drive , os x 10.4.3.
 

if have 2.4 ghz can install 4gb , recognize of it. pop out 2x1 chips, , put in 2x2.

need help with itunes 7.7
