i've use canon hf10 , has standard 3.5mm input jacks. microphone get? thinking getting canon dm-100 because can use hot shoe id hate spend $160+ on mic doesn't perform cheaper alternative , hate "dead cat" of wind guard(thingy?) if did go dm-100, plan black foam wind guard? effective?
wouldn't mind jmmy rigging non-canon mic fit in accessory shoe , running cable mic inputs. , versatile , attach boom when situation permits. lot.
i use sony ecm-ms908c picked $50 @ sony outlet store in aurora, il. these retail @ least twice $$$. works canon hv20's , attaches right existing shoe , plugs in mic jack on camera. sony includes extension arm lets me keep mic 3-4 inches off left side, right above lcd screen swings out on left of camera. sony mic includes foam windscreen , makes nicer. had folks asking gear because looked "professional" mic lol!
difference between built-in mic , sony stereo mic noticeable , eliminates camcorder motor noises. shot fireworks other night , attenuation set in menu of camcorder, did superb job.
if it, make sure turn off wind noise reduction in camcorder , if necessary, use included foam windscreen. thinking picking spare much.
