Running two Tiger installations


i have mac pro , having several annoying problems. i'm new macs , messed installation start scratch , reinstall leopard on brand new drive. here's question.. remove old drive bay 1 , replace wit new drive. after install leopard on new drive can put old drive in empty bay 4? able boot either drive? reason being until new installation configured , applications reinstalled, may need access old installation. if scenario work, how select volume boot @ start up?
 

i want hold "alt" key on startup show bootable volume's. can choose drive boot from there. works boot camp...
