Restoring 2G iPhone to erase all files


i got new iphone , sold old iphone. want erase of data, contacts, etc on old iphone before send out. told "restore" within itunes , bring iphone original state and install latest software. problem having buyer of iphone doesn't want me put 2.0 update on iphone. how can delete info on iphone without having update 2.0?

need help with itunes 7.7
