i came across receipt 1st mac ever bought - trusty 12" g4 1.33ghz powerbook, bought 4 years ago today. caused me couple of minutes of reflection....
disgruntled windows user, , became increasingly intrigued os x while watching leo , kevin enthuse on screensavers (rip). so, 4 years ago took plunge , became switcher, , powerbook became main system in microsoft-dominated corporate technology company.
learning curve not bad, following forums one, , pretty became comfortable living in mac environment. distinctly remember first time applied software update - had done plenty of windows updates, , knew cope pretty windows update issues, i'd never done os x update before , not sure i'd if went wrong. of course didn't go wrong, , i've never had os x update go wrong, through upgrading panther tiger updates, , through leopard updates.
i've found expectations have changed - when updating windows , didn't seem doing while, (correct) assumption had hung , needed restart. if mac's update doesn't seem doing anything, assumption it's busy , should leave it, , sure enough finishes whatever it's doing , well.
occurred me that, apart upgrading memory sometime in 2005, have never powered off. it's spent it's whole life either working or sleeping, including sleeping through more plane journeys care remember. apart reboots software update purposes, i've had force reboot few times adopter tiger or leopard issues. remember getting @ least 1 kernel panic grey screen years ago, there may have been second, can't remember.
since added g5 imac, intel mini, , macbook pro work. powerbook still in daily use in nook in our kitchen area, running leopard , used surfing , email/webapps.
nervousness 4 years ago @ prospect of switching unfounded. apart imac psu failure (fixed free under extended repair program) none of mac's have given me hint of trouble. sure i've had few questions, got answered through forum, nothing ever got in way of getting work done.
so, me @ least, saying 'it works' has been borne out in practice, , i'd pass on helpful members of mac community encouragement , given others me.
congrats, great not seeing post entitled. mac broke or because seems while macs work, no 1 posts highs, lows
