yes, i'm 1 of guys wait in line day shiny new gadget goes on sale, , iphone 3g 1 of shiniest gadgets of all. while i'll out there waiting in wee hours of july 11 (it's job, after all), rest of should think twice before losing sleep on launch day. here's why.

1. shortages unlikely
remember last year, when got in line iphone because afraid sell out? well, didn't quite happen. yes, individual at&t stores sold out quickly, many apple stores had plenty of iphones in stock in days , weeks after big day. (indeed, there weren’t serious iphone 1.0 shortages until recently.) also, word of hundreds of massive overseas shipments bound apple (which began arriving march) leads me believe there's healthy supply of iphone 3gs on hand. if you're worrying wii-like shortage of iphone 3g, ... wouldn't.

2. chaos on day one
unlike last year, customers won't able activate new iphones on itunes—instead, clerks have activate them in store, contracts have signed on spot, , new at&t subscribers have undergo credit checks. take 10-15 minutes per customer—and that's if things go smoothly. it'll new process everyone—especially apple store employees, aren't accustomed processing cell phone contracts—so i'm anticipating (dreading, actually) train wreck next friday. if you're dying lay hands on iphone 3g, might want wait week or until kinks worked out.

3. 32gb iphone 3g on horizon
keenly disappointed when steve jobs didn't unveil 32gb iphone last month—indeed, got 8gb , 16gb versions, , i'd iphone cram music , video can stand. here's thing, though—a 32gb iphone 3g coming within next 6 months, if not sooner (well, that's guess). if wasn't buying 16gb iphone 3g yahoo! tech, i'd sit tight , wait 32gb version arrive.

4. best new iphone features coming original iphone
yes, iphone 3g getting gps and, of course, 3g—but now, can't download music tracks on at&t's 3g network or access at&t's streaming video service. me, exciting thing new iphone upcoming app store, stocked scores of 3d games, chat clients, productivity apps, rss readers, name it—and app store available july 11 free upgrade old iphone. that'll keep busy till 32gb iphone comes out.

5. htc touch diamond
i've seen future of cell phones, folks, , it's called htc touch diamond. gorgeous vga screen, beautiful touch-screen interface, , compact, light-weight shell, diamond first phone make me green-eyed envy since … well, since original iphone. diamond set arrive in u.s. in september, , spy shots of sprint-branded touch diamond circulating on web. might want give diamond serious before committing new two-year iphone contract.
