New contract if not subsidized?

so using tilt , hoping switch on iphone better mac compatibility. i'm not eligible phone upgrade therefore paying full price of $499.

if paying full, non-subsidized amount, need sign new contract? make sense require new contract if they're subsidizing in way, nothing at&t makes sense i'm naturally inclined believe they'll stick me new contract.

if want enroll in 1 of special iphone price plans, they'll want sign contract period of time.

if stick existing price plan (and run risk of associated data overages may incur) it's possible may not require new contract. has been reported at&t going sell contract-free version of iphone 3g, $400 more price new 2-year activation. such phone should work existing at&t sim card.
