Working with .avi files in final cut express 4


hey bros!
ok... i've got question.
so, have been working .avi files in final cut express 4 in past few weeks. in past few days when making vids avi files, clips in canvas "dropping frames." tried exporting out .mov file, how laggy in canvas. had website apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1165 didnt help...
so, called apple canada , told me fce 4 doesnt support avi files.... dont know why worked , works... apple told me to convert dv format...
dv formats big... used quicktime player convert them..

can 1 tell me how work avi files in fce 4?

need help with itunes 7.7
