Disabling Edge on an iPhone 3G with Rogers Canada


hi, have cellphone plan rogers in canada, , i'm thinking getting hardware upgrade iphone. i'll keep current plan, not have data plan. i'm university student next 7 years, have wi-fi wherever go. thus, don't intend on buying 1 of roger's horrible data plans.

i've been hearing horror stories people don't have data plans , have been slammed obscene bills because iphones wandered onto using edge instead of wi-fi, perhaps when walking around or perhaps when wi-fi cut out.

brings me question; possible disable edge on new iphone 3g rogers canada? looked @ friend's iphone, , when go settings -> general -> network, there no edge menu. @ there 'data roaming' feature assume prevents downloading data while roaming outside of roger's network. know of way disable edge can connect if i'm on wireless network, without having unlock/hack iphone? if that's not possible, what's easiest/safest way so?

mentioned above, rogers iphone has no 'edge' menu under 'network', there's no place modify server password etc.

 

i got allot of crap rogers getting voice plan (but possible..) because said bill 1000+$ per month knew tried scare me because make more money selling data plan. anyway called rogers 2ce(to make sure true,you never know) , possible data block on iphone. means whenever out of wifi hotspot disconnect , tell there no place connect to.

need help with itunes 7.7
