3G Purchase scenario : family plan, single person in line


hi all,
wanted see if had further details on scenario:

- @ local apple store early
- plan on signing family plan (one me, 1 wife)
- wife @ home kids, in line solo.
- call said local apple store claims 1 phone per transaction, if i'm signing family plan (although remember reading family plan purchases @ apple store required 2 iphone purchases), , stated (i think) other person have there. (this similar at&t's policies)

questions are:
- sign basic plan phone, , come (maybe later day) , convert family plan, , add wife's phone on? guess have take place @ at&t store?
- has else heard feedback concerning "well, wife wants 1 home kids" argument?

yes, basic plan can, when wife avaliable can come , purchase iphone, , upgrade account family plan.

don't think work, using "1 per person in line" rule quite heavily.
