Macbook Frozen on home page screen


i have macbook, has been working day. log on, enter password log in, logs me in. desktop appears can see safari icon, ical, itunes etc top bar request shut down , find battery indicator doesn't appear. cannot click on icons , nothing responds clicking on it

need help with itunes 7.7
