How the iPod Touch UI deals with podcasts... surprisingly bad


for company famous incredible interfaces, way itouch , iphone handles content downloaded podcasts quite bad. relevant because many of trying develop itouch mobile device learning -- hand student itouch full of 40 hours of video lecturers , presentations , you've got can mobile workforce. apple has pretty signed onto itunes u.

flaws are:

-- when content originates video or audio podcasts (first acquired through itunes, synced ipod) -- video podcasts split different section, videos, while audio-only podcasts buried in music>podcasts. worse, in music>podcasts area, video podcasts appear, if student tries access video ones there, see first frame of video , hear soundtrack. novice users have no clue viewing in wrong area.

-- metadata attached each episode of video or audio podcast -- name, description, date, etc... totally ignored in itouch ui -- user sees in list of episodes title itself, , first 18 minutes of it. want make our episodes have description of content, reason presentaiton, date etc...

i'd love if improved in new version (july 11) i'm not incredibly optimistic.

well first flaw mentioned, don't see flaw. when i'm in music, expect music , not videos, , when i'm in videos expect videos , not music. if podcast doesn't have album art, first frame of music video used.

novice users, there reason why novice. i'm sure bit of direction, can make students proficient in watching , listening podcasts on ipod touches. never underestimate student's abilities :p

need help with itunes 7.7
