Maps app while offline?


hey all

i'm thinking of grabbing 16gb touch replace 8gb nano. i'm considering gps unit driving...so it's 1 or other. question is, can maps app save region of maps viewed offline? eg, while driving without wi-fi? i'm fine without turn turn help, real deal breaker me.
 

you can load directions before leave , it'll stay there. don't think there way change "route" while in progress (meaning don't think can save part of "region" asked)

need help with itunes 7.7
