NEED HELP retrieving hard drive


i have standard 13" white macbook bought in 2007. started freezing (suddenly after father used it... go figure) , cursor not move. talked applecare , said should try using start disks came macbook. tried next day , whole notebook day opened it. need retrieving files, docs, , apps before erased everything. if can appreciated
 

if have mac start 1 want data off in target mode - hold down t during startup. connect 2 macs via firewire - transfer entire hd other mac
