Hardware hack - remove glass bezel?


i've been looking @ photos of disassembled ipt , i'm wondering happen if run ipt without glass screen. photo here shows i'm talking about: http://www.ifixit.com/parts/stream/5/large/19-1.jpg

if disconnect glass cover/screen (shown on right) correct that disable touch capability of device? still function video player wouldn't have protection or touch-interface, right?
 

sounds right me, though have question motivation...

need help with itunes 7.7
