Apple's U.S. Market Share Continues to Grow

pair of quarterly research reports released today reveal apple continuing experience growing u.s. market share among pc shipments.

gartner's report pegs apple's share of u.s. pc shipments second quarter of 2008 @ 8.5%, 6.4% in second quarter of 2007. apple's u.s. shipments increased 38.1% year-over-year, far outpacing total industry shipment growth of 4.2% , allowing apple pass acer third position in u.s. rankings.

meanwhile, idc's report places apple in virtual tie acer third place in u.s. market share @ 7.8% in 2q08, 6.2% in 2q07. idc's estimates yield shipment growth apple of 31.7% year-over-year in overall market growing @ 3.6%.

despite these gains in u.s. market, apple still has not broken top 5 vendors worldwide shipments in either survey. toshiba continues hold fifth spot 4.4% market share in worldwide pc market experienced 15-16% growth in shipments year-over-year.
