This Winter: MBP or Mac Pro?

hey all,

i've been longtime mac user, , have 2.16 ghz 15" mbp purchased 2 years ago. according rumors/speculations, mbp have major redesign have styling similar current imacs. mbp should have next line in intel chips, should make faster , last longer battery wise.

in mind, i'm planning upgrade winter, torn between getting newest mbp or mac pro (will nehalem available then?).

primary use laptop right portability, dvd ripping, general use (word, internet, etc) , editing fcp. however, friend built sweet hackintosh while ago , able rip dvd using mactheripper in ten minutes average. on contrary, takes me 40 minutes rip dvds on laptop.

got thinking- more beneficial me if got mac pro , turned media station? 1 of goals have digital copy of dvds easy viewing, utilizing itunes movies , music.

or better off getting upgraded 15" mbp , buying external hds , connecting hds via esata using express 34 slot , using external dvd drive ripping speed? can see becomes complicated @ point.

did quick setup of / need each machine , difference $350 before consider external hds, esata express 34 cards, external dvd drives.

ideas? know comes down whether desire portability (and complicity) or power, if 1 choose, be?

on unrelated note, install wd raptor in macpro boot drive?

well can't answer questions if you, hold on current mbp portability , purchase refurb mac pro ripping movies , higher power tasks. refurb save money , have best of both worlds, portability , power.

of course if had planned on selling mbp , using money new machine, recommendation null. sorry couldn't more. :)
