recently got brand new mac pro standard ati radeon hd 2600 xt graphics card. 6 gb or ram, 320g hd.
on mac side (leopard), works perfectly: second monitor (a plasma screen connected hdmi second dvi of ati card) recognized , can use extended monitor or in duplicate mode. works great on mac side.
under bootcamp (windows xp pro) however, nothing: in display properties second monitor appears, grayed out, , when chose activate (either extending desktop or in clone mode), stays grayed out , nothing gets displayed on it.
tried following (in pretty every possible combination - thank god winclone allows me restore bootcamp image without having reinstall on windows side...):
a) bootcamp 2.0 (installed default bootcamp assistant)
b) update bootcamp 2.1
1) windows xp pro sp2c vanilla install (from windows xp install disk)
2) update windows xp sp3 (with , without bc 2.1 - bc 2.1 didn't seem required sp3 - maybe because mac pro , not mb or mbp)
i) ati drivers installed default bootcamp assistant (bc 2.0)
ii) latest ati drivers found on ati web site under bootcamp / mac pro (interestingly, ccc install works, seems driver set not include 1 hd 2600 xt - when install driver set, tells me no compatible hardware found...)
iii)latest ati drivers found under windows xp (these did include 1 hd 2600 xt)
nothing seems work. read posts ati catalyst utility showing 3rd monitor @ point, never got 3rd monitor showing in of many many trials.
considering upgrading nvidia 8800 gt dual screen work under bootcamp/windows xp because need , read everywhere drivers nvidia far better ati ones.
advice? should try next before getting 8800 ?
thanks!
not can if latest ati drivers not allowing second monitor utilized windows xp. nothing new ati , "win driver of month" mentality. can give nvidia try make sure purchase card seller allows returns. experience nvidia support , drivers has not left me impressed them although better deal ati.
don't forget, if install nvidia you'll have working again in os x - should easier xp - never know.
regards.
